One of my dogs is about 10 months old and when she gets on a scent she does good at not paying any attention to me, but when shes not all she does is stay next to me and smell about 5 yards away from me then comes by my side. Any tips to get her going out.

If I have a young dog that wont get out I just sit down and ignore it, eventually the dog will get bored and move out. When I am by myself with a dog I usually walk in, stop and cast the dog just like you would do a bird dog. I let the dog hunt out it's range, and when it comes back I trust it has hunted it's area, whatever it is comfortable with. Of course I want the dog to at least get out of sight, and do a thorough job of working it's run. I don't mind if it comes in from behind, I like a dog that will check behind some, as you know a squirrel will hold tight and bug out sometimes after you and the dog have passed and have your backs to it. when the dog checks I move about to where I figure the dog has hunted, in the direction I want to go, and let him do it again. Of course you go to where the dog trees, but I try to hunt the dog where I want to go, not just follow them, which is a mistake in my opinion.
